JS Tip 612: Holiday Giving
A Holiday Tip
Today is Christmas. This is the holiday season. Hanukkah. Kwanza. A time for giving.
We’ve found some nice examples of giving.
Every year, members of the Texas Border Patrol compete in a chili cook-off. This year, Los Vaqueros of Brownsville won the competition. They gave their winnings—nearly $4,000—to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
In 2019, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette won a Pulitzer prize for covering the horrendous shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue. The newspaper’s staff donated the $15,000 prize to rebuild the synagogue.
After winning the 2014 World Cup, German soccer star Mesut Ozil used his $400,000 in winnings to pay for surgeries for twenty-three needy children in Brazil, the host country. He explained it was a “personal thank you for the hospitality of the people of Brazil.”
In the 1994 remake of Miracle on 34th Street, Kris Kringle explains his role:
I’m a symbol. I’m a symbol of the human ability to be able to suppress the selfish tendencies that rule the major part of our lives.
It’s a beautiful time of the year.
We love this stuff.
We appreciate you.
