JS Tip 613: Leaders Lead the Way

From the Leadership Workshops: Leaders Lead the Way

As a leader, you set the tone for your organization. Your group. Your office.

This has been a difficult year, but we’re through it. It’s over. As of yesterday.

Historians have identified worse years. Some examples:

1348: The worst year ever. The height of the Black Death. 200 million dead.

1816:  The year without a summer. Ash from an Indonesian volcano eruption blotted out the sun. Crops failed. Famine claimed millions.

1944: The worst of the Holocaust. Genocide. Death camps.

Colin Powell, United States Secretary of State during the September 11th attacks, later wrote “Perpetual optimism, believing in yourself, believing in your purpose, believing you will prevail, and demonstrating passion and confidence is a force multiplier. If you believe and have prepared your followers, the followers will believe.”

During the Apollo 13 crisis, a senior official complained, “This could be the worst disaster NASA's ever experienced.” Gene Kranz, one of the Apollo 13 Flight Directors, responded, “With all due respect, sir, I believe this is gonna be our finest hour.”

You’re the leader. Leaders lead the way. You set the tone. The glass is half full. 2021 is ours.

We love this stuff.
